Women’s Soccer Falls to Westfield State University, 6-0

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Elms College sophomore goalkeeper Alexa Rinaudo (Bellmore, N.Y.) made six saves, but Westfield State University struck for three goals in each half to help drive the Owls to a 6-0 non-league win in Thursday evening's women's soccer action at Alumni Field in Westfield, Mass.

With the loss, Elms moves to 6-8-1 overall, while Westfield State improves to 8-5 on the season.

In the first half, Westfield State struck right out of the gate as Sarah Sypek (Westhampton, Mass.) deposited a shot in the back of the net with an assist from Ashleigh Chretien (North Attleboro, Mass.) just 11 seconds into the game to give the Owls a 1-0 lead.

Ten minutes later, Sypek found Kate Matroni (Hampden, Mass.) who delivered a ball into the back of the net to double Westfield State's advantage. Sypek then added her second score of the contest in the 38th minute of action to give the Owls a 3-0 lead at intermission.

In the second half, Amanda Grant (Westfield, Mass.) scored on a feed from Matroni in the 55th minute to extend the lead to 4-0.

Sypek added her third tally of the evening in the 76th minute to increase the lead to 5-0, and the Owls capped the scoring less than two minutes later when Amanda Magri (Ashland, Mass.) found Hannah Zannini (Amesbury, Mass.) who netted Westfield State's sixth marker of the game.

Blazers' sophomore midfielder Michelle Rossignol (Manchester, Conn.) fired Elms' lone shot in the losing effort.

Elms returns to conference action on Saturday, October 19 when it travels to Southern Vermont College at 1:00 p.m.
