Women’s Soccer Falls to Ramapo College, 2-0

MADISON, N.J. – Elms College junior goalkeeper Erika Aponte (Palmer, Mass.) made 11 saves, but Ramapo College scored once in each half to help seal a 2-0 victory in Saturday afternoon's women's soccer game during Drew University Fall Festival action in Madison, N.J.

With the loss, Elms moves to 1-1 on the season, while Ramapo improves to 1-2 overall. Elms will take on Rutgers-Camden on Sunday, September 8 at 12:00 p.m. to conclude Fall Festival action.

Ramapo broke the scoreless deadlock in the 21st minute when Alexa Ragusa (Old Bridge, N.J.) took a cross from Katie Popowych (Aberdeen, N.J.) and scored to give the Roadrunners a 1-0 lead.

Ramapo held an 8-2 edge in shots in the first 45 minutes of play and a 14-9 differential in shots in the second stanza but Elms' defense held the Roadrunners at bay for much of the rest of the contest. In the 87th minute, Popowych received a crossing pass from Campbell Duffy (Mahwah, N.J.) who was on a breakaway and finished with a goal to give Ramapo a 2-0 advantage.

Roadrunners' goalkeeper Talia Auslin (Fair Lawn, N.J.) helped preserve the shutout by making three of her four saves in the second frame.

Aponte was stellar in defeat for the Blazers, making five saves in the first half and six in the second.

Elms had four shots on target including one each from senior midfielder Chelsea Carroll (Meriden, Conn.), sophomore defender Lyndsey Oppenheimer (Easthampton, Mass.) sophomore midfielder Michelle Rossignol (Manchester, Conn.) and freshman midfielder Kylen O'Hearn (Somers, Conn.)
