Men's Cross Country Finishes Third at NECC Championship

WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Elms College men's cross country squad finished third overall at the 2015 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Men's Cross Country Championship, held at Stanley Park Saturday afternoon.
The Blazers collected 91 team points to finish eight points ahead of Wheelock College. Freshman Keith Brown (Hartford, Conn.) earned All-NECC Second Team honors with a sixth-place finish, posting a time of 28:25
Freshman Weston Asselin (Agawam, Mass.) placed 14th overall with a time of 31:01, followed by senior Adam Kuzdzal (Chicopee, Mass.) in 15th at 31:07. Freshman Nic Kane (Uncasville, Conn.) claimed 26th with a time of 32:44, and junior Joshua Diaz Rolon (Chicopee, Mass.) took 31st at 33:37. Kudzdal was selected to the 2015 NECC Men's Cross Country All-Sportsmanship Team.
SVC sophomore Marc Brandmeyer (Bennington, Vt.) crossed first overall once again to grab his second straight NECC Runner of the Year honor; he came through with a time of 26:19, a mark good enough to be the new NECC Championship record. Brandmeyer was followed by teammate and junior Justin Ferguson (Broadalbin, N.Y.) who was second at 26:31. Lesley University senior Ian Barber (Westhampton, Mass.) came through next at 27:48 before a pair of league freshmen battled down the stretch for the ensuing two spots. Regis' Stephen McCall (Brockton, Mass.) pushed hard to take fourth place with a 28:14 showing, earning himself the NECC Rookie of the Year accolade in the process. Bennington College freshman Noah Froh (Milwaukee, Wis.) was right on his heels, the Mountaineer rounding out the All-NECC First Team with a time of 28:16 for fifth place.
Southern Vermont junior Corey Barcomb (Burlington, Vt.) got the best of the three going for the seventh spot, edging out a pair of Pride runners at 28:45. The next four finishers all hailed from Regis, the first two being freshman Shane Romanchick (Trumbull, Conn.) and senior Jonathan Paul (Medford, Mass.) who were neck-and-neck at 28:47 for eighth and ninth, respectively. RC sophomore Sam Mildrum (Hingham, Mass.) rounded out the All-NECC Second Team, placing 10th with a 29:10 showing.
Conference coaches voted Southern Vermont leader Kathleen Newton as the NECC Coach of the Year once again while each team selected one of its members to the inaugural NECC All-Sportsmanship Team.
