Women's Cross Country 14th At Smith Invitational

NORTHAMPTON, MA, Sept. 13, 2008 - Elms College women's cross country senior Jill Bigos (South Hadley, MA) placed 41^st overall to help the Blazers finish 14^th in the 17-team Smith Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

Bigos clocked an impressive time of 22:39 in the women's 5,000-meter (3.1-mile) race in a field that totaled 175 finishers.

Freshman Lilliana Cuervas (Westfield, MA) posted a solid time of 27:00, while junior Amanda Koch (Williston, VT) covered the 5k in a time of 28:52.

Springfield placed four runners in the top 10 en route to team championship honors with 32 points. Smith (59), Westfield State (75), Wellesley (119), Coast Guard (163), Mount Holyoke (179), Lesley (198), Clark (251), Castleton State (288), Norwich (307), Lasell (320), Western New England (336), Saint Joseph (CT) (346), Elms College (413), New England (458), Mitchell (475) and Southern Vermont (499) rounded out the 17-team field.

The Blazers return to action next Saturday, September 20 at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational. Race time is 12:00 p.m.
