Women's Volleyball Rallies Past MCLA, 3-2
WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL RALLIES TO BEAT MCLA, 3-2
CHICOPEE, MA, Oct. 1, 2008- Elms College senior outside hitter Jeannette Nunez (Canovanas, Puerto Rico) hammered down a match-high 18 kills, added 20 digs and five aces to help rally the Blazers to a thrilling 3-2 (25-18, 25-20, 31-29, 25-18, 15-10) win over MCLA in Wednesday night's non-conference women's volleyball match at the Maguire Center.
The Blazers won for the fourth time in five matches to improve to 4-10 overall. The Trailblazers fell to 4-7.
After MCLA won the first two sets, the Blazers staved off elimination with a nail biting 31-29 win in set three.
In that third set, the Blazers rallied from a 21-17 deficit to knot the set at 23-23. From there, the set featured seven lead changes and six ties before Nunez hammered down the final kill of the set to give Elms College the 31-29 win.
In the fourth set, the Blazers broke away from a 4-4 tie with a 12-5 run to register a 25-18 victory.
From there, Elms College raced out to an early 10-3 en route to the come-from-behind victory.
Junior setter Kim Phillips (Randolph, MA) added two kills, two aces, 14 digs, and a match-high 32 assists for the Blazers.
Freshman middle hitter Kayla Bromback (Lee, MA) knocked down a team-high 11 kills, junior setter Marta Brown (Glens Falls, NY) handed out 28 assists and sophomore libero Amanda Lane (Swansey, MA) scooped up a match-high 26 digs in the losing effort.
The Blazers will return to action this Saturday, October 4 in a non-conference tri-match at WPI to face the host Engineers and Anna Maria. The first match is set for 1:00 p.m.
