WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL EARNS NECC TRI-MATCH SPLIT

NASHUA, NH, Oct. 18, 2008 - Elms College senior outside hitter Jeannette Nunez (Canovanas, Puerto Rico) combined for 31 kills and junior setter Kim Phillips (Randolph, MA) posted 30 assists in two matches to help the Blazers earn a split of Saturday's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's volleyball tri-match at Daniel Webster College.

The Blazers (7-13 overall, 4-1 NECC) breezed past Newbury 3-0 (25-14, 25-16, 25-8) in the first match, but fell 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-15) to host Daniel Webster later in the day.

The host Eagles (12-6, 5-1 NECC), who also defeated Newbury 3-0, moved ahead of the Blazers into sole possession of first place in the NECC standings.

Against Newbury, Nunez hammered home 17 kills on 27 swings while Phillips recorded 19 assists.

In the loss to Daniel Webster, Nunez added 14 more kills and Phillips had 11 assists.

Elms College concludes regular season play next Saturday, October 25 when it hosts Southern Vermont and Lesley in a crucial conference tri-match. The Blazers face Lesley at 10:00 a.m. and Southern Vermont at 2:00 p.m.
