Women's Volleyball Shutout At Babson, 3-0

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL SHUTOUT AT BABSON, 3-0

BABSON PARK, MA, Sept. 3, 2008 -  Elms College senior outside hitter Jeannette Nunez (Canovanas, Puerto Rico) knocked down a team-high six kills, but Babson posted a 3-0 (25-7, 25-13, 25-18) women's volleyball win over the Blazers in the non-conference season-opener for both teams on Wednesday night.

Babson freshman Megan Flaherty (Hollis, NH) was outstanding in her collegiate debut, posting a team-high 10 kills to go along with eight digs and a solo block.

 Junior co-captain Becca Rydzik (Beacon Falls, CT) added five kills against just one error in two sets played, while junior Caitlin O'Neill (Lynnfield, MA) contributed five kills and a team-leading five service aces, including two during a 7-0 run to start the match.

Freshman setter Anna Belz (Bayport, NY) was also stellar in her first collegiate performance, leading the Beavers with 23 assists and 10 digs.

Junior setter Kim Phillips (Randolph, MA) added 11 digs and eight assists for the Blazers in the losing effort.

Elms College returns to non-conference play in a tri-match at Smith College on Saturday afternoon beginning at 11:00 a.m. The Blazers face host Smith at 11:00 a.m. and Westfield State at 1:00 p.m.
