Women's Volleyball Earns Split Of NAC Tri-Match

CHICOPEE, MA, Sept. 15, 2007 - Elms College freshman outside hitter Jeannette Nunez (Canovanas, Puerto Rico) knocked down a combined 30 kills in two matches to help lead the Blazers to a split of Saturday's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women's volleyball tri-match at the Maguire Center.

Elms College (2-3, 1-1 NAC) fell to Husson College 3-1 (30-20, 30-24, 28-30, 30-18), but rallied to defeat Lesley University 3-1 (19-30, 30-17, 30-24, 30-26) in the final match of the day.

Husson (6-4, 2-0 NAC) earned a sweep of its two matches with a 3-1 (30-19, 30-19, 28-30, 30-15) win over Lesley.

In that victory for the Eagles, senior middle hitter Rachel Russell (Trenton, ME) knocked down 14 kills, had six digs and two block solos, while sophomore outside hitter Allison Chepke (North Jackson, OH) added 13 kills, 10 digs and four aces.

For Elms College in its win over Lesley, sophomore opposite Amanda Konsewicz (Westfield, MA) blasted out a team-high 17 kills and Nunez registered a match-high 31 digs.

Sophomore setter Kim Phillips (Randolph, MA) handed out a combined 61 assists in the two matches for the Blazers, including 36 in the win over Lesley.

Sophomore middle hitter Lindsey Marek (Killingworth, CT) recorded a match-high 19 kills and junior setter Gianna Spaziante (Hawthorne, NY) added 36 assists for Lesley (0-5, 0-2 NAC) in its loss to Elms College.

The Blazers return to action when they host Mount Holyoke College on Thursday, September 20. Match time is 7:00 p.m.
