
Women's Swimming Outlasts Golden Bears to Victory
SPRINGFIELD, MA – The Elms College Women's Swimming team traveled to Western New England University to race the WNE Golden Bears on Sunday morning, adding another victory after the winter break.
BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Sophomore Joni McGillis (Katy, TX) placed first in three individual competitions; the 100-yard butterfly (1:05.69), 100-yard freestyle (57.52), and 50-yard butterfly (29.82).
First Year Sasha Plotniak (South Hadley, MA) would place first in the 1,000-yard freestyle (12:54.00) and 50-yard breaststroke (39.33). Plotnicak also placed third in the 500-yard freestyle (6:27.33).
Graduate Student DeAngela Fobbs (Bowie, MD) would finish first in the 500-yard freestyle (6:07.98) and second in the 100-yard freestyle (58.44).
First Years Rayne Wheeler (Big Piney, WY), Megan Baio (East Bridgewater, MA), Fobbs, and McGillis would place first in the 200-yard medley relay (2:11.91).
Junior Auxana Newell (West Springfield, MA), first year Evelyn Pohlman (Northbridge, MA), Fobbs, and Plotnicak would finish in first place in the 200-yard freestyle relay (2:00.45).

"We had a pretty strong showing for this point of the season. Sasha was our swimmer of the meet! During her 1,000 free today she really pushed it and almost got a best time. GO BLAZERS!"
