CHICOPEE, MA, Sept. 16, 2008 - Elms College freshman goalkeeper Kelly Callahan (Monson, MA) stopped a collegiate career-high 18 shots, but Westfield State junior forward Jessie Tomich (Alford, MA) and sophomore defender Susie Lachowski (Sutton, MA) each scored in the game's opening 8:30 to help send the Owls to a 3-0 shutout victory over the Blazers in Tuesday night's non-conference women's soccer game at Leary Field.

Westfield State evened its record at 3-3 overall and won for the 16th time in 18 meetings against Elms College since 1991. The Blazers remained winless at 0-5.

Tomich connected for her second goal of the year on a header from sophomore forward Meg Gearin's (Groton, MA) cross just 2:37 into the game.

Tomich got the Owls off to a quick 1-0 lead just 2:37 into the game as she connected on a header off a cross from sophomore forward Meg Gearin (Groton, MA).

Lachowski added a header of her own 5:53 later off sophomore midfielder Kate MacLellan's (Wilbraham, MA) cross into the penalty area.

Gearin concluded the scoring with her second goal of the year in the 76th minute for the Owls, who owned a commanding 35-2 advantage in total shots.

Westfield State freshman goalkeepers Jess Pieciak (Three Rivers, MA) and Brittany Beeman (Springfield, MA) were not called upon to make a save in the combined shutout victory.

Elms College opens New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) play when it hosts Bay Path College on Saturday, September 20. Game time at Leary Field is 7:00 p.m.
