Box score

CHICOPEE, MA, Sept. 11, 2008 - Elms College junior midfielder Vanessa Pare (Belchertown, MA) scored the game-tying goal with 35 seconds in regulation, but MCLA sophomore forward Jess Tietgens (Stamford, VT) struck for three goals, including the game-winner 2:32 into overtime to help lift the visiting Trailblazers to a 3-2 win over the Blazers in Thursday's non-conference women's soccer game at Leary Field.

With the game tied 2-2 in overtime, Tietgens was awarded a penalty kick after being interfered with deep inside the penalty area, then deposited the winner past Elms College freshman goalkeeper Kelly Callahan (Monson, MA).

MCLA extended its win streak to three straight and improved to 3-1, while Elms College remained winless at 0-3.

Tietgens got the Trailblazers off to a quick 1-0 lead as she collected a pass from senior midfielder Taylor Kenyon (North Bennington, VT) and blasted a shot just inside the far post.

Tietgens extended MCLA's lead to 2-0 in the 35th minute with her team-leading fourth goal of the year.

Junior forward Krystyna Gagne (Methuen, MA) cut the deficit in half when she fought off a pair of MCLA defenders and rocketed a blast just inside the far post past MCLA junior goalkeeper CeCe Von Tiesenhausen-Hush (Arlington, VT).

Pare then provided her last-minute heroics for the Blazers when she sent a shot from 30 yards out that snuck under the crossbar past an outstretched Von Tiesenhausen-Hush.

Sophomore forward Harmony McGorman (Orleans, MA) nearly won it for MCLA in the opening 30 seconds of overtime, but her shot went just wide of the near post.

Von Tiesenhausen-Hush stopped seven shots to earn her second win of the year, while Callahan turned away nine shots in the loss.

Elms College returns to non-conference action with a game at Smith on Saturday, September 13. Game time is 2:00 p.m.
