CHICOPEE, MA, Sept. 27, 2008 - Elms College sophomore forward Alison Couture (Chicopee, MA) and junior forward Krystyna Gagne (Methuen, MA) netted three goals apiece to lead the Blazers to a convincing 8-0 shutout win over Becker in Saturday's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's soccer game at Leary Field.

Elms College (2-6, 2-0 NECC) won for the second time in its last three games, while Becker (1-7, 0-2 NECC) lost its fifth straight.

The Blazers' eight-goal outburst was the most since a 9-1 win at Thomas on October 23, 2004.

Couture, who recorded her first collegiate hat-trick and also added an assist, got the Blazers off and running with goals in the 9th and 22nd minutes off of a pair of assists from junior midfielder Shannon Schickler (Adams, MA).

Senior midfielder Kerrie Bowden (Chicopee, MA) added her first goal of the year at 26:15 and Gagne followed with the first of her three goals 23 seconds later to put the game out of reach and give the Blazers a commanding 4-0 lead at intermission.

Gagne added her second goal of the game just 3:05 into the second half, Couture then completed her hat-trick 5:26 later to push the Blazers' lead to 6-0.

Gagne added her team-leading sixth goal of the season in the 65th minute and freshman forward Jen Killion (Cambridge, MA) concluded the scoring with her first collegiate goal in the 89th minute.

Freshman goalkeeper Kelly Callahan (Monson, MA) and senior goalkeeper Shannon Donnelly (Florence, MA) combined for six saves to record the shutout victory.

Becker junior goalkeeper Shannon Tibbetts (Warren, MA) and sophomore goalkeeper Alena Phongsa (Putnam, CT) combined to turn away 10 shots in the loss.

Elms College returns to NECC play at Newbury on Wednesday, October 1. Game time is 3:00 p.m.
