CHICOPEE, MA, Sept. 20, 2008 - Elms College junior forwards Serina Percoski (Westfield, MA) and Krystyna Gagne (Metheun, MA) netted a goal in each half to help the Blazers post a 2-0 shutout win over Bay Path in Saturday night's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's soccer game at Leary Field.

The Blazers, who were playing in their inaugural NECC game, snapped a season-opening, five-game losing streak and improved to 1-5, 1-0 NECC. Elms College had lost three of its first five games by one goal, including two in overtime.

Bay Path, meanwhile, remained winless at 0-5, 0-2 NECC.

Percoski gave the Blazers a quick 1-0 lead in the 13th minute when her shot from inside the penalty area hit the crossbar and dropped in behind Bay Path junior goalkeeper Samantha Gunseth (Swanzey, NH).

Elms College, which held an 18-2 advantage in first half shots, needed a breakaway goal from Gagne - her team-leading third of the year - in the 57th minute to put away the pesky Wildcats.

For the game, the Blazers held huge advantages in both shots (30-5) and corner kicks (10-1).

Elms College freshman goalkeeper Kelly Callahan (Monson, MA) stopped two shots en route to her first collegiate career shutout victory.

Gunseth turned away 14 shots in a valiant effort for Bay Path in the loss.

Elms College returns to non-conference play on Tuesday, September 23 when it plays at Mount Holyoke. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
