No. 5 Women's Soccer Eliminated From NAC Tournament By No. 1 Maine-Farmington

FARMINGTON, ME, Oct. 30, 2007 - Elms College junior goalkeeper Shannon Donnelly (Florence, MA) turned away nine shots but could not stop the No. 1 Beavers from netting three penalty kicks in the shootout to advance past the No. 4 Blazers in Tuesday's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) semifinal women's soccer game at Maine-Farmington.

Maine-Farmington improves to a record of 14-4-2, 10-0-1 NAC and advances to host No. 2 Husson in the NAC Championship on Saturday, November 3.  With the loss Elms College is eliminated from the tournament and finishes the season with a record of 7-9-2, 5-4-1 NAC.

Both teams were held scoreless at the end of regulation and would remain knotted at 0-0 after two 10-minute overtime periods.

Converting for Maine-Farmington in the shootout was sophomore forward Melissa St. Amand (Windsor, ME), sophomore midfielder Ashley Tetreault (Spencer, MA), and sophomore forward Amber Murphy (Manchester, NH).

Maine-Farmington senior goalkeeper Kerry Kowalczyk (Topsham, ME) held the Blazers scoreless for 110 minutes of play but it was senior goalkeeper Melissa Demerchant (Presque Isle, ME) who was called upon to defend against the Elms College strikers in the shootout.  Demerchant turned away two shots to give the Beavers the edge over the Blazers.
