Women's Soccer Sails Past Maine Maritime, 6-1

CHICOPEE, MA, Sept. 23, 2006 - Elms College freshman forward Krystyna Gagne (Methuen, MA) netted a pair of goals and added an assist, while freshman midfielder Maggie Rivers (Dalton, MA) registered a goal and two assists to help lead the Blazers to a convincing 6-1 win over Maine Maritime Academy in Saturday's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women's soccer game at Leary Field.

Elms College won its fourth straight game overall to improve to 4-3 overall, 3-0 NAC. Maine Maritime fell to 1-3-1 overall, 0-1 NAC.

The Blazers erupted for three unanswered goals in a 20-minute span midway through the first half on tallies by senior forward Chelsea Rose (Belchertown, MA), freshman forward Serina Percoski (Westfield, MA) and Gagne.

Maine Maritime senior midfielder Kristen Gaylord (Auburn, ME) cut her team's deficit to 3-1 with a goal just 69 seconds into the second half.

The Blazers, however, put the game away with three goals in a 13-minute span. Rivers netted her first collegiate goal in the 66th minute, junior defender Caitlin Childs (Hingham, MA) added her first goal of the year in the 78th minute and Gagne concluded the scoring just over a minute later with her second goal of the game.

Elms College sophomore goalkeeper Shannon Donnelly (Florence, MA) recorded five saves to earn her fourth straight win.

Senior Hillary Arris (Falmouth, ME) and freshman Jessica Hewitt (Harwich, MA) combined for six stops for the Mariners in the loss.

Elms College returns to North Atlantic Conference play when it hosts Husson College on Sunday, September 24.
