CHICOPEE, MA, Oct. 11, 2006 - Elms College freshman midfielder Vanessa Pare (Belchertown, MA) netted the game-winning goal with 6:06 remaining in the second overtime to lift the Blazers to a thrilling 2-1 win over Lasell College in Wednesday's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women's soccer game at Leary Field.

Elms College won for the ninth time in its last 10 games to improve to 9-4 overall and remained atop the NAC standings at 7-0. Lasell lost its fifth straight game to fall to 2-12 overall, 1-7 NAC.

After a scoreless first overtime, Pare stole the ball from a Lasell defender inside the six-yard box and chipped a shot over sophomore goalkeeper Jamie Remmers (West Islip, NY) that slipped just inside the far post for the game-winner.  The goal was Pare's third of the year.

Despite Elms College's 15-3 advantage in first half shots, the game remained scoreless until Lasell senior midfielder Justine Hill (Carver, MA) scored her team-leading third goal of the year off a header in the 59th minute.

The Blazers responded in the 84th minute when junior midfielder Jamie Walsh (Springfield, MA) bent a shot past Remmers from a near impossible angle deep in the corner for her third goal of the year to tie the game at 1-1.

Remmers added to her conference-leading 135 saves with 14 stops in the losing effort to keep the Lasers close, while Elms College sophomore goalkeeper Shannon Donnelly (Florence, MA) made one save en route to her ninth win this season.

Elms College returns to NAC play on Saturday, October 14 at Thomas College. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
