WOMEN'S LACROSSE FALLS TO GREEN MOUNTAIN, 15-5

CHICOPEE, MA, March 15, 2009 - Green Mountain freshman attack Amanda Posey (Columbus, GA) netted a game-high four goals and the Eagles raced out to a nine-goal halftime lead en route to a 15-5 win over Elms College in Sunday's non-conference women's lacrosse game at Leary Field.

Green Mountain (1-1), which opened its season with a 14-12 loss at Becker on Saturday afternoon, jumped out to a 9-0 halftime lead in Sunday's season opener for the host Blazers (0-1).

Sophomore attack Amanda Malkin (Barrylakes, NJ) and freshman midfielder Erin Burch (Lebanon, CT) tallied three goals apiece for the Eagles, who led 3-0 before scoring three more goals in just 90 seconds midway through the first half to extend their lead to 6-0.

Elms College sophomore midfielder Jennifer Lough (Feeding Hills, MA) scored three second half goals, while junior defender Ashley Ziemba (West Springfield, MA) and freshman midfielder Katlyn Harrington (East Longmeadow, MA) each added a goal in the loss.

Green Mountain freshman goalkeeper Kelsy Allan (Jupiter, FL) stopped 11 shots to earn her first collegiate victory, while Elms College freshman netminder Holly Braziel (Shelburne Falls, MA) turned away nine shots.

The visiting Eagles outshot the Blazers 28-18, including 17-6 in the opening 30 minutes.

Elms College returns to non-conference home action when it hosts Rhode Island College on Thursday, March 19. Game time is 4:00 p.m. at Leary Field.
