WOMEN'S LACROSSE SAILS BY ST. JOSEPH, 11-5

WEST HARTFORD, CT April 20, 2009 - Elms College sophomore attack Jenn Lough (Feeding Hills, MA) netted a game-high four goals and freshman midfielder Emily Walsh (Hadley, MA) tallied three times to carry the Blazers to their first win of the year - an 11-5 victory at St. Joseph (CT) in Monday's non-conference women's lacrosse game at West Hartford, Connecticut.

The Blazers improved to 1-12 overall, while the Blue Jays conclude their season with a 1-11 record.

In a cold, driving rain, freshman attack Katlyn Harrington (East Longmeadow, MA) scored in the game's opening seconds to give the Blazers a quick 1-0 lead.

Sophomore Melissa Meon (South Hadley, MA) then made it a 2-0 game with just 35 ticks off the clock. St. Joseph senior midfielder Amelia DeDufour (Woodbury, CT) and sophomore midfielder Casey James (Windsor, CT) would knot the game at 2-2 with goals over the next two minutes.

Elms College, however, would then rip off a 6-0 run over the remainder of the half - including all three of Walsh's tallies, while Meon and Harrington each scored their second goals of the contest and Lough notched her first of the game to give the Blazers a commanding 8-2 lead at intermission.

DeDufour got things going for the Blue Jays in the second half with an unassisted mark with 23:48 to cut the hosts deficit to 8-3.

Lough would then answer with two goals before DeDufour countered again with just under 16 minutes to play to make it 10-4.

Lough would grab one more with just under a minute to play before James had the last goal of the contest for the Blue Jays on a free-position attempt with just 11 seconds to play.

Freshman goalkeeper Holly Braziel (Shelburne Falls, MA) stopped seven shots in her first collegiate victory.

Elms College returns to non-conference play at Western Connecticut State on Thursday, April 23. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
