WOMEN'S LACROSSE FALLS TO CASTLETON, 13-4

CHICOPEE, MA, April 6, 2007 - Elms College junior attack wing Caitlin Childs (Hingham, MA) netted her team-leading third and fourth goals of the year, but Castleton State College freshman attack wing Nicole Adams (Rutland, VT) tallied a game-high three goals to help the Spartans pull away to a 13-4 win over the Blazers in Saturday's New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) game at Leary Field.

With the loss, Elms College remained winless at 0-3 overall, 0-2 NEWLA. Castleton evened its overall mark at 2-2 and improved to 2-1 in the NEWLA.

The Blazers trailed just 4-3 with 13:17 remaining in the first half following junior center Lauren O'Donnell's (Hampden, MA) first goal of the year.

The Spartans responded with a pair of tallies by Adams and a goal from junior attack wing Nicole Bouchard (Brentwood, NH) in the final 12:36 of the first half to build a 7-3 lead at intermission.

Castleton then put the game out of reach with three more unanswered goals in the opening 8:35 of the second half that included tallies by freshman attack wing Katherine Cournoyer (Winooski, VT), Adams and sophomore midfielder Alex Flex (Middletown Springs, VT).

Freshman attack wing Kaitlyn Graham (Paxton, MA) netted her first collegiate goal and sophomore goalkeeper Alicia Bobbie (Higganum, CT) stopped 17 shots for the Blazers in the losing effort.

Fleck and freshman attack wing Stephanie Pearce (Shoreham, NY) each scored a pair of goals, while sophomore goalkeeper Meredith Pope (Montpelier, VT) turned aside 11 shots to bolster the Spartans' victory.

Elms College returns to non-conference play when it hosts Rhode Island College on Monday, April 9. Game time is 4:00 p.m. at Leary Field.
