CHICOPEE, MA, Nov. 15, 2008 - Westfield State sophomore center Erica Hunter (Hadley, MA) registered a double-double with a game-high 22 points and 10 rebounds to help send the Owls to a 73-48 win over Elms College in the non-conference women's basketball season opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon at the Maguire Center.

Hunter finished 7 of 9 from the field, including a perfect 3 for 3 from 3-point point range for the Owls, who had four players reach double figures in the victory.

Senior guard Lauren Sylvain (Hadley, MA) poured in 18 points, as she connected on 6 of 10 from 3-point range for the Owls, who shot 47.4-percent (9 of 19) from beyond the arc.

The Blazers led 13-12 midway through the opening half before the Owls went on a 23-4 run over the final 9:34 to build a 35-17 lead at intermission.

Senior forward Andrea Wasuk (Lenox, MA) and senior guard Katie Sylvain (Hadley, MA) added 10 points apiece for Westfield State, which shot a sizzling 6 of 11 from 3-point range in the opening 20 minutes.

Junior center Amanda Brogna (Oxford, MA) led the Blazers with a team-high 15 points and freshman point guard Carolyn Talmadge (Wilbraham, MA) added 10 points in the loss.

Elms College returns to non-conference play when it hosts WNEC on Tuesday, November 18. Tip-off at the Maguire Center is 7:00 p.m.
