CHICOPEE, MA, Jan. 27, 2009 - Elms College junior forward Amanda Brogna (Oxford, MA) delivered a team-high 17 points, four other teammates scored in double figures, and the Blazers used a big run early in the first half  en route to a 76-33 win over Bay Path College in Tuesday night's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's basketball game at the Maguire Center.

Elms College (7-9 overall, 5-2 NECC) won for the fifth time in six games to move into sole possession of third place in the NECC standings. Bay Path lost its fourth straight and fell to 3-13, 1-6 NECC.

The Blazers led 7-4 with 16:39 left in the first half then ripped off 14 unanswered points over the 3:11 to take the lead for good at 21-4.

Freshman guard Katie Condon (Newington, CT), who finished with a collegiate career-high 13 points, knocked down a pair of jumpers and a 3-pointer to help key the decisive, early run for the Blazers.

Elms College shot a season-high 55.3-percent in the first half to build a 49-12 lead at intermission.

The Blazers, who led by as many as 44 with 17:06 remaining in the game, forced the Wildcats into 37 turnovers, held a decisive 44-27 rebounding edge and outscored Bay Path 48-10 in the paint.

Elms College junior forward Erin Hutchinson (Groton, MA) narrowly missed a double-double, as she finished with 14 points and nine rebounds.

Junior forward Jess Jurkowski (Belchertown, MA) scored 11 points and hauled in eight rebounds, while freshman point guard Carolyn Talmadge (Wilbraham, MA) added 10 points and a game-high five assists to bolster the Blazers' victory.

Bay Path junior forward Jessica Hunt (Madison, CT), currently the NECC's leading scorer, finished with a game-high 21 points  and 10 rebounds as the only player to post a double-double.

Elms College returns to NECC play on Thursday, January 29 as it will travel to Mitchell College for the first-ever meeting between the two teams. Tip-off is 7:00 p.m.
