BENNINGTON, VT, Jan. 17, 2009 - Elms College senior forward Paige Schneider (Windsor, CT) poured in a season-high 19 points and junior forward Jess Jurkowski (Belchertown, MA) added a season-high of her own with 16 points as the Blazers cruised to an 85-54 win over Southern Vermont in Saturday's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's basketball game at Mountaineer Gymnasium.

The Blazers (5-8 overall, 3-1 NECC) extended their win streak to three straight and were victorious for the fourth time in their last five games. Southern Vermont fell to 3-9, 1-3 NECC.

Schneider, who also added a game-high five assists and finished two points shy of her collegiate career-best, was sensational in the victory, as she finished 9 of 13 from the field and hauled in nine rebounds in 27 minutes. Schneider's 19-point effort marked the fourth straight game she has reached double figures.

Jurkowski dropped in her season-best total on 7 of 8 shooting in just 22 minutes, while junior forward Amanda Brogna (Oxford, MA) registered her fourth straight double-double and seven of the year, as she finished with 14 points and a game-high 16 rebounds.

Freshman guard Carolyn Talmadge (Wilbraham, MA), the NECC's Rookie of the Week in each of the past two weeks, finished with 10 points and four assists as the fourth Elms College player to reach double figures in the victory.

The Blazers shot 45-percent from the field in the first half, while limiting the host Mountaineers to just nine field goals in the opening 20 minutes to race out to a 47-22 lead.

Junior forward Erin Hutchinson (Groton, MA) was also solid on the glass, as she grabbed 14 boards for the Blazers, who owned a huge 64-38 rebounding advantage.

Elms College returns to NECC play on Thursday, January 22 at Daniel Webster. Tip-off is 7:00 p.m.
