UTICA, NY, Dec. 15, 2008 - Elms College freshman guard Carolyn Talmadge (Wilbraham, MA) netted a collegiate career-high 11 points in 39 minutes, but the Blazers could not overcome an early 17-point deficit and fell 56-47 at SUNYIT in Monday's non-conference women's basketball game at Utica, New York.

The Wildcats won the first-ever meeting between the two teams and improved to 6-4. The Blazers fell to 1-7.

SUNYIT, which roared out to a 21-4 lead in the game's opening 13 minutes, limited Elms College to 21.2-percent shooting in the first half and led 31-14 at intermission.

Elms College rallied behind a 29-15 run to cut the deficit to 46-43 with 3:49 remaining, but SUNYIT scored 10 of the game's final 14 points to hold off a valiant comeback bid by the Blazers.

The Blazers limited the host Wildcats to just 27.1-percent shooting for the game, but SUNYIT held a commanding 23-8 advantage in offensive rebounds, which it converted into 17 second-chance points.

Junior forward Amanda Brogna (Oxford, MA), who came into the game averaging 16.3 points and 9.9 rebounds, was plagued by foul trouble, as she was limited to eight points and four rebounds in just 15 minutes.

Freshman guard Caitlin Cottell (Red Bank, NJ) made four three-pointers and finished with a game-high 16 points to lead SUNYIT.

Elms College returns to non-conference play on Monday, January 5 at St. Joseph (CT). Tip-off is 7:00 p.m.
