WEST HARTFORD, CT, Jan. 5, 2009 - Elms College freshman guard Carolyn Talmadge (Wilbraham, MA) netted a collegiate career-high 19 and junior forward Amanda Brogna (Oxford, MA) added 15 points, nine rebounds and a game-high three blocks to carry the Blazers to a 69-45 win over Saint Joseph College (CT) in Monday night's non-conference women's basketball game at the O'Connell Center.

Elms College (2-7), which snapped a two-game losing streak, converted 17 Saint Joseph turnovers into a 22 points.

Talmadge finished 8 of 12 from the field, including 3 of 4 from 3-point range for the Blazers, who shot 41.7-percent from beyond the arc for the game.

Following Saint Joseph freshman guard Michelle Fillion's (Killingworth, CT) 3-pointer that pulled the host Blue Jays to within 20-18, the Blazers used a 12-4 run over the final 6:03 of the first half to take a 32-22 lead at intermission.

A pair of layups and a 3-pointer by Talmadge helped key a 16-6 run that extended the Blazers lead to 48-28 just 4:20 into the second half.

Freshman center Sarah Phillips (Portland, CT) converted a 3-point play with a layup and ensuing free throw after being fouled to cut the deficit to 48-31.

Elms College junior guard Jess Jurkowski (Belchertown, MA), however, answered with the next five points over the next 52 seconds to put the game out of reach and extend the Blazers' lead to 53-31.

Jurkowski finished with a season-high 11 points and eight rebounds.

Elms College next plays at Becker in its New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) on Saturday, January 13. Tip-off is 1:00 p.m.
