Brogna Named To NEWBA Honor Roll

BROGNA NAMED TO NEWBA HONOR ROLL

SOUTH HADLEY, MA, Feb. 2, 2009 - Elms College women's basketball junior forward Amanda Brogna (Oxford, MA) was named to the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) weekly honor roll on Monday, February 2.

Brogna - the New England Collegiate Conference's (NECC) Player of the Week in two of the last three weeks - averaged 20.0 points and 10.0 rebounds to help lead the Blazers to a perfect 3-0 week that included NECC wins over Bay Path College (76-33), Mitchell College (77-47) and Daniel Webster College (60-49).

Brogna, who was also named ECAC Division III New England Player of the Week on January 27, posted a pair of double-doubles last week.

On Thursday at Mitchell, she registered 21 points and 10 rebounds. She then notched game highs of 22 points and 15 boards in last Saturday's home win over  Daniel Webster.

For the season, Brogna has posted 11 double-doubles this season, including six straight conference games from January 10 - 24.

Those six straight double-doubles currently tie Brogna for ninth all-time for consecutive double-doubles in NCAA Division III women's basketball history.

The Blazers (9-9, 7-2 NECC) have won four straight and seven of eight as they return to conference play at Lesley University on Thursday, February 5. Tip-off is 8:00 p.m.
