CHICOPEE, MA, Nov. 17, 2007 - Senior forward Katy Serafin (Carmel, NY) netted a game-high 23 points Connecticut College had four players reach double figures en route to an 84-65 non-conference women's basketball win over the Blazers in the championship game of the 2007 Blazer Invitational at the Maguire Center.

Serafin, who was named Tournament Most Valuable Player (MVP), was 11 of 18 from the field in just 27 minutes for Connecticut College.

The Camels (2-0) shot a sizzling 72.2-percent in the game's opening 8:24 to jump out to a 31-18 lead and built 52-33 halftime lead.

A layup by sophomore forward Amanda Brogna (Oxford, MA) and a 3-pointer by senior guard Michelle Fernandes (Danbury, CT) in the first 2:30 of the second half pulled the Blazers to within 52-38, but Conn. College answered with a 12-1 run over the next 4:28 to pull away.

Sophomore guard Jacquelyn DeFeo (Stratford, CT) and senior forward Lindsay Michel (West Haven, CT) dropped in 11 points apiece and freshman center Cindy Roseen (Wolfeboro, NH) added 10 points to all reach double figures for Conn. College.

Junior guard Jenn Payton (Stratford, CT) tallied a team-high 16 points and Fernandes added 14 points, including three 3-pointers for Elms College (1-1).

In the consolation game, St. Joseph's sophomore guard Carolyn Freeman (Scarborough, ME) led all scorers with 11 points and the Monks had four players reach double figures to pull away to a 66-50 win over MCLA.

Both teams got off to a slow start in the opening 20 minutes, as the Trailblazers and Monks combined for 29 turnovers.

Neither team led by more than five points in the first half, which featured a total of five ties and three lead changes.

Sophomore forward Allison Miner (Pembroke, NH), freshman guard Erin Cartwright (Acton, MA) and sophomore guard Meghan Daigle (Grantham, NH) all scored 10 points apiece to pace St. Joseph's (1-1).

Sophomore center Laura Silverman (Clifton Park, NY) netted a game-high 11 points and sophomore guard Ali Leveille (Southampton, MA) added 10 points to both reach double figures for MCLA (0-2) in the losing effort.
