CHICOPEE, MA, Jan. 13, 2007 - Elms College sophomore guard Jenn Payton (Stratford, CT) tallied a team-high 11 points, but Thomas College played a pair of players in double figures to pull away to a 57-37 win over Elms College in Saturday's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women's basketball game at the Maguire Center.

Elms College lost for the sixth time in its last seven games to fall to 4-9 overall, 2-4 NAC.

Thomas, which had lost its first five games of the season, has now responded with eight straight wins as it improved to 8-5 overall, 4-1 NAC.

Junior center Lea McNary (Marlborough, CT) led all scorers with 14 points and sophomore forward Amy Miles (Waldo, ME) added 11 for Thomas, which tallied the game's first 12 points and led by as many as 15 (19-4) in the opening 11 minutes.

The Blazers, however, roared back with a 14-6 run to cut the deficit to 25-20 with 1:40 remaining in the first half

Thomas then responded with a 6-1 run over the final 1:40 of the half to extend its lead to 31-21 at intermission.

Payton netted all 11 of her points in the first half points for the Blazers, while Drosdik had nine of her own for the Terriers in the opening 20 minutes.

Elms College's defense held Thomas scoreless for the first 5:30 of the second half, but the Blazers could get no closer and pulled to within 31-27 following a layup by sophomore forward Paige Schneider (Windsor, CT).

The Blazers would get no closer, however, as Thomas closed the game with a 26-10 run to seal the win.

Elms College returns to NAC play next Saturday, January 20 when it hosts Becker College. Tip-off is 1:00 p.m. at the Maguire Center.
