CHICOPEE, MA, Feb. 3, 2007 - Elms College junior guard Michelle Fernandes (Danbury, CT) and freshman guard Tee Nazario (Bronx, NY) each scored a team-high 12 points, but freshman center Claudia Martineau (Washington, VT) registered a Johnson State school-record 33 points to help lead the Badgers to an 82-69 victory in Saturday afternoon's North Atlantic Conference women's basketball game at the Maguire Center.

With the loss, Elms College loses its third straight game to fall to 6-13 overall, 4-8 NAC. Johnson State improves to 8-11 overall, 6-7 NAC.

The game was tied at 6-6 three minutes into the game before Johnson State used a 16-0 run over the next five minutes to take a 22-6 lead.

Martineau, who netted 15 of her points in the first half, sparked the Badgers to a 44-28 lead at intermission.

Johnson State sophomore guard Jenna Lewis (Middlebury, VT) dropped in 10 first half points and finished the game with 15.

Elms College used a 14-8 run over the first 7:40 of the second half to cut the deficit to 62-52, but could get no closer.

Elms College received 10 points apiece from freshman guard Taeler Connor (Ayer, MA) and sophomore forward Shauna Sullivan (Chicopee, MA) in the losing effort.

Freshman guard Ally Wanat (West Springfield, MA) netted 11 points off the bench to give the Blazers five players in double figures.

Johnson State sophomore guard Casey Rusin (Wilmington, VT) and senior forward Sarah Bose (Enosburg, VT) each tallied 10 points for the Badgers in the win.

The Blazers return to action Tuesday, February 6, when they travel to Mount Ida for a conference game. Game time is 8:00 p.m.
