CHICOPEE, MA, Jan. 12, 2007 - Elms College sophomore guard Jenn Payton (Stratford, CT) tallied a team-high 10 points and eight rebounds, but University of Maine-Farmington senior forward Kari Simpson (Wells, ME) poured in a game-high 25 points to help lead the Beavers to a 71-41 win over the Blazers in Friday night's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women's basketball game at the Maguire Center.

Elms College lost for the fifth time in its last six games to fall to 4-8 overall, 2-3 NAC. Maine-Farmington, which was coming off Wednesday night's 65-46 loss to Bowdoin, the nation's top-ranked Division III team, improved to 8-3 overall, 4-0 NAC.

Maine-Farmington raced out to a 24-6 lead in the game's opening 13:02 and limited the host Blazers to under 20-percent shooting for most of the first half.

Simpson dropped in 12 of her points in the first half on 5 of 9 shooting from the field to help stake the Beavers to a 37-17 lead at intermission.

Maine-Farmington then added a 9-2 run that included a 3-pointer and a jumper by Simpson in the first 4:36 of the second half to pull away for good.

Sophomore guard Erin Porter (Bangor, ME) added 10 points and six rebounds for the Beavers in the victory.

Elms College received seven points from sophomore forward Paige Schneider (Windsor, CT) in the losing effort.

Elms College returns to NAC play when its hosts Thomas College on Saturday, January 13. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
