Softball Eliminated From NECC Championship
SOFTBALL ELIMINATED FROM NECC CHAMPIONSHIP
BOSTON, MA, May 1, 2009 - The second-seeded softball team was eliminated from the inaugural New England Collegiate Conference Championship following losses to both No. 3 Mitchell and No. 1 Lesley on Saturday afternoon at Boston, Massachusetts.
The Blazers were shutout 4-0 by Mitchell (16-16-1) then were eliminated following a 5-0 loss to Lesley (24-11).
In the loss to Mitchell, sophomore center fielder Alison McBride (East Providence, RI) collected half of the Blazers' hits, as she finished 2 for 4.
Against Lesley, freshman pitcher Courtney Hampton (Westfield, MA) allowed just four earned runs on a third inning grand slam and finished with four strikeouts to finish 8-5 in her first collegiate season.
Elms College concluded its 2009 season 17-14 and finished second in the NECC's inaugural season after posting a 14-2 conference mark.
