FORT MYERS, FL, March 11, 2009 - Elms College junior shortstop Allyson Graffum (Ipswich, MA) went 2 for 4 with two RBI in game one and the Blazers received solid pitching performances from freshman Courtney Hampton (Westfield, MA) and sophomore Ani Ramsdell (Gardner, MA), but fell 4-3 in eight innings to Bowdoin and 3-1 to St. Mary's (IN) in the final day of the Gene Cusic Classic on Wednesday at Fort Myers, Florida.

In the first game against Bowdoin, Graffum delivered a RBI single in the seventh to send the game to extra innings.

Although the Blazers plated a run in their half of the eighth, the Polar Bears (1-0) scored twice to seal the victory.

Ramsdell was the hard-luck loser for the Blazers despite allowing just three earned runs and five hits over 7.1 innings.

Against St. Mary's (IN), Hampton was also the tough-luck loser, although she yielded just one earned run on six hits in the complete-game effort.

Junior left fielder Kim Lastowski (Turners Falls, MA) belted a RBI double to tie the game at 1-1 in the fifth, but St. Mary's scored two runs in its final at-bat to secure the victory.

Elms College returns to non-conference play on Thursday, March 26 when it hosts Westfield State in its home opener at Condon Field. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
