ELMS COLLEGE RALLIES PAST WESLEYAN, 2-1

Box score

CHICOPEE, MA, March 25, 2008 - Elms College senior pitcher Tammie Tremblay (Springfield, MA) threw a complete-game, five-hitter and the Blazers rallied for two runs in the fifth inning then held on for a thrilling 2-1 win over Wesleyan University in Tuesday afternoon's non-conference softball game at Dooley Field.

Elms College won its third straight game to improve to 5-4 overall, while Wesleyan (5-10) had its four-game win streak snapped.

Wesleyan broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth when freshman first baseman Talia Bernstein (Miami, FL) delivered a RBI single through the left side to plate sophomore pitcher Meaghan Dendy (Swansea, MA) and give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.

Elms College rallied for two runs in the fifth - both with two outs.

Dendy forced groundouts by Tremblay and sophomore left fielder Kim Lastowski (Turners Falls, MA) for the first two outs of the inning, but senior shortstop Karyn Palomba (Enfield, CT) and junior second baseman Kerrie Bowden (Chicopee, MA) followed with consecutive singles.

Senior first baseman Christina Giampetruzzi (Westfield, MA) and freshman right fielder Alison McBride (East Providence, RI) belted back-to-back RBI singles to deliver the game-tying and go-ahead runs for the Blazers.

From there, Tremblay did the rest, as she allowed just one hit over the final two innings en route to her fourth win of the season. She finished with one strikeout and issued just three walks in the complete-game effort.

Dendy was equally impressive as the tough-luck loser, as she yielded just one earned run, six hits and issued three walks in 6.0 innings of work.

Elms College returns to non-conference play at Westfield State on Thursday, March 27. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
