Softball Swept By Maine-Farmington

SOFTBALL SWEPT BY MAINE-FARMINGTON

CHICOPEE, MA. April 6, 2008 - Elms College junior second baseman Kerrie Bowden (Chicopee, MA) combined to go 3 for 8 with a run scored and an RBI in two games, but the Blazers were defeated 4-3 in game one, and 6-4 in game two by Maine-Farmington in Sunday afternoon's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) softball doubleheader held at Dooley Field.

With the sweep Maine-Farmington improved to a record of 2-0, 2-0 NAC while Elms College drops to a mark of 7-8, 0-2 NAC.

Maine-Farmington junior pitcher Sarah Defilipp (Brewer, ME) limited Elms College to just five hits over seven innings in game one.  Defilipp allowed zero earned runs and recorded two strikeouts in the 4-3 Beaver victory.

Elms College senior shortstop Karyn Palomba (Enfield, CT) finished game one with a hit and two RBI to lead the Blazers offensively.

In game two Elms College freshman pitcher Andrea Ramsdell (Gardner, MA) allowed just two earned runs on six hits through seven innings pitched.  Ramsdell yielded ten walks and recorded seven strikeouts in the losing effort.

Bowden was 2 for 4 in game two including an RBI double in the fifth inning.  Elms College scored three runs in the fifth inning to cut the Beaver lead to 6-3.

The Blazers would add another score in the sixth inning but ultimately were defeated 6-4 in game two.  Maine-Farmington junior pitcher Liz Bergeron (Milford, ME) scattered six hits over six innings to earn her first victory of the season.

Elms College returns to conference play April 10 when the Blazers face Wheelock in a doubleheader.  Game one is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.
