Box score

CHICOPEE, MA.  April 19, 2008 - Elms College senior pitcher Tammie Tremblay (Springfield, MA) pitched seven innings in game one, scattering eight hits and allowing just two earned runs, and also went 4 for 7 at the plate in two games to help lead the Blazers to a sweep of Maine-Maritime with 4-2 and 8-1 victories in Saturday afternoon's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) softball doubleheader held at Condon Field.

The sweep snaps a four-game losing streak for Elms College, now 13-12, 6-6 NAC.  Maine-Maritime drops to 6-12, 4-12 (NAC).

Prior to the doubleheader Elms College held a ceremony in which the softball facility was renamed Cheryl R. Condon field in honor of the school's longtime head softball coach.

Maine Maritime took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning of game one on a RBI single by sophomore first baseman Sam Rheaume (Andover, NH) and a sacrifice groundout by freshman outfielder Megan Russell (Dixfield, ME).

Elms College gained the lead for good in the third inning when the Blazers struck for three runs on two hits.  After Tremblay led off the inning with a single to center field, both senior shortstop Karyn Palomba (Enfield, CT) and sophomore catcher Kim Lastowski (Turners Falls, MA) recorded RBI.

Tremblay surrendered just one walk and struck out four batters to earn the game one victory.

In game two after leading just 2-1, Elms College erupted for five runs in the third inning to break away from the Mariners.  Sophomore catcher Tiffany Williams (Berlin, CT) hit a two RBI single and the Mariners had two costly errors which provided momentum for the Blazers.

Elms College tacked on one more run in the fifth inning when junior second baseman Kerrie Bowden (Chicopee, MA) led off the inning with a double and was ultimately driven home freshman outfielder Alison McBride's (East Providence, RI) RBI single.

Freshman pitcher Andrea Ramsdell (Gardner, MA) allowed just six hits and one earned run to record her fifth win of the season.

Elms College returns to conference play Sunday, April 20, when the Blazers host a doubleheader against Husson.  Game one is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m.
