CHICOPEE, MA, April 26, 2008 - Elms College senior first baseman Christina Giampetruzzi (Westfield, MA) went a combined 7 for 8 and the Blazers pounded out 37 hits en route to 16-1 and 20-1 five-inning, mercy-rule victories over Johnson State College in Saturday's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) softball doubleheader at Condon Field.

Elms College (18-13 overall, 11-7 NAC) extended its win streak to five straight and was victorious for the seventh time in eight games. Johnson State fell to 0-28, 0-18 NAC.

A sweep of Sunday's 12:00 p.m. home conference doubleheader against Castleton would give the Blazers their fifth 20-win season in six years.

In game one, the Blazers wasted no time in taking control, as they plated 10 first-inning runs on nine hits.

Following consecutive singles by Junior second baseman Kerrie Bowden (Chicopee, MA) and senior shortstop Karyn Palomba (Enfield, CT), sophomore catcher Tiffany Williams (Berlin, CT) blasted a three-run homer deep to left field to give Elms College a quick 3-0 lead.

The Blazers ran the lead to 16-0 with a six-run, second inning that included a two-run single by Palomba and consecutive two-run doubles by senior pitcher Tammie Tremblay (Springfield, MA) and sophomore left fielder Kim Lastowski (Turners Falls, MA).

From there, freshman pitcher Destinee Meeker (Bantam, CT) pitched three solid innings of relief and allowed just one run on three hits to post her first collegiate-career victory.

In game two, the Blazers raced out to a 3-0 first-inning lead following a Palomba's RBI groundout and a two-run single by sophomore third baseman Allyson Graffum (Ipswich, MA).

Elms College then put the game away with a 15-run second inning, in which the Blazers pounded out 13 hits and sent 21 batters to the plate.

In that inning, Palomba delivered a two-run single through the right side. Giampetruzzi and Bowden each added two-run doubles later in the inning before Graffum delivered the knockout blow with a bases-clearing, three-run double.

Sophomore shortstop Erin Glock (South Woodstock, VT) went a combined 1 for 3 with a run scored, including a RBI sacrifice bunt in the third inning of game two.

Elms College freshman pitcher Andrea Ramsdell (Gardner, MA) struck out five, allowed one earned run on just one hit in 3.0 innings of game two to post her eighth win of the season.
