SOFTBALL FALLS AT WORCESTER STATE, 8-3

WORCESTER, MA, April 2, 2008 - Elms College sophomore catcher Tiffany Williams (Berlin, CT) went 3 for 3, but Worcester State plated three first-inning runs and eventually went on to an 8-3 win over the Blazers in Wednesday's non-conference softball game at Rockwood Field.

With the win, Worcester State improved to 5-4. Elms College fell to 7-6.

The Lancers, who had 12 hits on the day, scored three runs in the first inning, single tallies in the third and fifth, and three more in the sixth to take a 7-1 lead heading into the final inning.

The Blazers looked like they were headed towards a big inning in the seventh when Williams doubled to open the inning. Senior pitcher Tammie Tremblay (Springfield, MA) tripled her home with a shot to right field. After consecutive walks loaded the bases, freshman right fielder Alison McBride (East Providence, RI) delivered a RBI infield single to plate Tremblay, but senior pitcher Danielle Caron (Peabody, MA) came on in relief to get the last two outs and preserve the victory.

Elms College is scheduled to open its North Atlantic Conference (NAC) slate with a home doubleheader against Thomas on Saturday, April 5. Game one is set for 1:00 p.m.
