SOFTBALL OUTSLUGGED AT WESTFIELD STATE, 9-2

WESTFIELD, MA, March 27, 2008 - Elms College freshman pitcher Andrea Ramsdell (Gardner, MA) allowed two earned runs in 3.0 innings of work, but Westfield State pounded out 13 hits and erupted for seven runs over the final two innings en route to a 9-2 win over the Blazers in Thursday's non-conference softball game at Alumni Field.

Westfield State extended its win streak to three straight and improved to 6-3.

Elms College saw its three-game win streak snapped as it fell to 5-5.

The Owls jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a RBI groundout by sophomore designated player Kim Brennan (Douglas, MA).

The Blazers capitalized on an outfield error to plate both of its runs in the second inning to snag a 2-1 lead.

Sophomore catcher Gia Galabrese (West Springfield, MA), who went 3 for 4 in the game, delivered a RBI single up the middle to tie the score at  2-2.

The game remained tied at 2-2 until the bottom of the fifth, where the Owls erupted for four runs on four hits and also took advantage of two Elms College errors.

Westfield State would add three more runs on three hits in the sixth to put the game away.

Junior second baseman Kerrie Bowden (Chicopee, MA), senior first baseman Christina Giampetruzzi (Westfield, MA) and sophomore catcher Tiffany Williams (Berlin, CT) each went 1 for 3 for the Blazers in the losing effort.

Elms College returns to non-conference play on Sunday, March 30 at Newbury College. Game one of the doubleheader is set for 12:00 p.m.
