Softball Posts Doubleheader Sweep At Newbury

SOFTBALL EARNS DOUBLEHEADER SWEEP OVER NEWBURY

CHESTNUT HILL, MA, March 30, 2008 - Elms College senior first baseman Christina Giampetruzzi (Westfield, MA) went a combined 5 for 7 with three RBI and freshman pitcher Andrea Ramsdell (Gardner, MA) fired her first collegiate-career no-hitter in the second game to help the Blazers post a sweep of a non-conference softball doubleheader over Newbury College on Sunday afternoon at Pine Manor College.

The Blazers (7-5) posted a 4-0 shutout in the first game then completed the sweep with a 17-0 five-inning, mercy-rule win in game two.

In the first game, Giampetruzzi went 3 for 3 with a RBI and senior pitcher Tammie Tremblay (Springfield, MA) threw a complete-game, two-hit shutout that included nine strikeouts. The Blazers plated a pair of runs in the first and single runs in the fourth and sixth innings.

In the second game, Ramsdell struck out five and issued four walks for the Blazers, who exploded for 14 runs over the first three innings and also capitalized on nine Newbury errors.

Elms College returns to non-conference play with a single-game at Smith College on Monday, March 31. Game time is scheduled for 4:45 p.m.
