Softball Sweeps Past Bay Path In NAC Doubleheader

LONGMEADOW, MA, April 23, 2008 - Elms College senior pitcher Tammie Tremblay (Springfield, MA) threw a complete-game, four-hit shutout in game one, and also went a combined 5 for 6 to help the Blazers post mercy-rule victories of 11-0 and 8-0 over host Bay Path College to complete a sweep of a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) softball doubleheader at Farmlea Road Field on Wednesday afternoon.

With its sweep, Elms College extended its win streak to three straight and improved to 16-13 overall, 9-7 NAC. Bay Path finished its regular season 19-14, 9-10 NAC.

In game one, Tremblay struck out three and walked one en route to her ninth win of the season.

The Blazers pounded out 14 hits that included a RBI double by junior center fielder Danielle LaPlante (Randolph, VT) and a RBI triple by sophomore third baseman Allyson Graffum (Ipswich, MA).

In game two, Tremblay, and freshmen Andrea Ramsdell (Gardner, MA) and Destinee Meeker (Bantam, CT) each pitched two innings to combine on the Blazers' second four-hit shutout of the day.

Sophomore left fielder Kim Lastowski (Turners Falls, MA) went 2 for 3, including her first collegiate-career home run - a two run shot in the third.

Tremblay and freshman right fielder Alison McBride (East Providence, RI) each added a triple for the Blazers, who plated three runs in both the second and sixth innings of game two to seal the sweep.

Elms College returns to conference play when it hosts Johnson State on Saturday, April 26. Game one is set for 1:00 p.m. at Condon Field.
