CHICOPEE, MA, April 28, 2007 - Elms College junior pitcher Tammie Tremblay (Springfield, MA) surrendered just two runs in a nine-inning complete-game effort in game one to help lift the Blazers to a split in Saturday afternoon's non-conference softball doubleheader with Thomas College at Dooley Field.

Elms College won game one 3-2 in nine innings, but Thomas salvaged the split with a 5-2 win in the nightcap.

With the split, Elms College improves to 12-11 overall, while Thomas moves to 9-17 overall.

In game one the Blazers took a 1-0 lead into the top of the seventh before Thomas forced extra innings when they tied the game at 1-1.

From there, each team scored one run to bring the score to 2-2 through eight innings.

Tremblay then induced a perfect top of the ninth inning before sophomore center fielder Danielle LaPlante (Randolph, VT) knocked in the game-winning run with a bases-loaded bunt down the first base line for the Blazers in the home half of the ninth.

Thomas junior pitcher Nikki Smith (Bucksport, ME) was solid in the loss as she hurled a perfect game before Elms College senior shortstop Jen LeDoux (Easthampton, MA) singled to center field in the fifth.

In game two, Thomas took a quick 2-0 lead in the third inning when Smith smacked a two-run double to right center field.

The Blazers plated a run in the fifth and sixth innings to knot the game 2-2.

From there, Thomas opened up for three runs in the top of the seventh inning with three bases-loaded RBI singles.

Smith, who pitched 2.2 innings of relief work in the second game, gave up just one run on four hits and was 2 for 4 at the dish with three RBI in the victory for the Terriers.

Freshman pitcher Alyssa Skewes (Ellington, CT) surrendered just three hits and registered two strikeouts in 4.0 innings of relief work and LaPlante finished 2 for 2 at the plate with an RBI in the losing effort for the Blazers in the nightcap.

The Blazers return to non-conference action Sunday, April 29 when they host Maine-Farmington. Game one of the doubleheader is slated for 12:00 p.m.
