SOFTBALL FALLS TO PLYMOUTH STATE, 4-0

FORT MYERS, FL., March 18, 2007 - Elms College junior pitcher Tammie Tremblay (Springfield, MA) gave up three earned runs in five innings but Plymouth State sophomore second baseman Heather Bartolo (Derry, NH) went 2 for 3 with an RBI to help lift the Panthers to a 4-0 victory in Sunday night's non-conference season opener for both teams in the Gene Cusic Classic at Cape Coral Complex.

With the loss, Elms College falls to 0-1, while Plymouth State improves to 1-0.

Plymouth scored three runs in the first inning, and one more in the second.

Sophomore third baseman Amanda DeSimone (Providence, RI), sophomore center-fielder Danielle LaPlante (Randolph, VT) and junior first baseman Christina Giampetruzzi (Westfield, MA) each had hits for the Blazers in the loss.

Panthers sophomore pitcher Courtney MacFarland (Hampstead, NH) gave up three hits and struck-out three in seven innings in her first shut-out win of the season.

The Blazers return to non-conference action Tuesday, March 20, when they play Hamline at 5:00 p.m. and Wisconsin-Superior at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Cusic Classic.
