CHICOPEE, MA, April 14, 2007 - Elms College junior first baseman Christina Giampetruzzi (Westfield, MA) went a combined 5 for 8 with three RBI to help the Blazers to a split of Saturday afternoon's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) West Division softball doubleheader at Dooley Field.

Elms College won the first game 5-1 and Lesley salvaged a split with a 5-4 win in the nightcap.

Elms College, which improved to 7-8 overall, 5-1 NAC West Division, had its 34-game regular season conference winning streak snapped - a streak dating back to April 21, 2004.

Lesley, which had its eight-game winning streak snapped in game one, improved to 15-6 overall, 6-3 NAC West Division.

In game one, Elms College used a three-run sixth inning to pull away to victory as Giampetruzzi notched three of her hits, and recorded all three of her RBI. Junior pitcher Tammie Tremblay (Springfield, MA) allowed just one run on five hits, and struck out six in the complete-game win for the Blazers.

In game two, Elms College jumped to an early 3-2 lead through two innings before Lesley scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4-3 lead.

The Blazers then tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the sixth when freshman designated player Tiffany Williams (Berlin, CT) scored on a single to left field by junior second baseman Karyn Palomba (Enfield, CT).

Lesley loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh, and sophomore center fielder Gianna Spaziante (Hawthorne, NY) drew a walk to plate sophomore right fielder Alicia Pari (North Providence, RI) with what stood to be the game-winning run.

Lesley had five players with multiple hits in the nightcap including doubles by Spaziante, who finished a combined 5 for 7 on the day, and freshman catcher Jodi Fralick (Woburn, MA). Junior pitcher Christina Anzilotti (Pelham, NY) pitched a solid 4.0 innings for the Lynx.

Sophomore left fielder Kerrie Bowden (Chicopee, MA), freshman right fielder Allyson Graffum (Ipswich, MA) and Williams each finished 3 for 4 in the losing effort for the Blazers.

The Blazers return to action Sunday, April 15 when they travel to Newbury College for a non-conference doubleheader. Game time one is set for 12:00 p.m.
