Softball Swept By Lasell In NAC Doubleheader

CHICOPEE, MA, April 18, 2007 - Elms College freshman catcher Kim Lastowski (Turners Falls, MA) went a combined 4 for 7 with four singles, but Lasell College senior first baseman Shawna Kelly (Windham, CT) finished a combined 4 for 6 with two RBI to lift the Lasers to a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) doubleheader softball sweep on Wednesday's at Dooley Field.

With the sweep, Elms College loses its third straight game to fall to 7-10 overall, 5-3 NAC. Lasell extended its winning streak to six games to improve to 16-11 overall, 8-0 NAC and remain atop the NAC West Division.  

Lasell won game one 4-3, and completed the sweep with a 3-2 victory in the nightcap.

In game one, Elms College carried a 2-0 lead into the sixth inning before Lasell erupted for four runs.

With the game tied at 2-2, Kelly smacked a two-run triple to center field to give the Lasers a 4-2 lead.

The Blazers answered with one run in the top of the seventh but Lasell freshman pitcher Nicole Slader (North Smithfield, RI) induced a game-ending groundout to seal the victory.

Junior pitcher Tammie Tremblay (Springfield, MA) struck out seven in a complete-game effort and junior first baseman Christina Giampetruzzi (Westfield, MA) added two RBI in the losing effort for the Blazers.

In game two, Lasell jumped to an early 1-0 lead before the Blazers knotted the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth. Lasell then scored two runs in the top of the sixth to take a 3-1 lead. The Blazers answered with a run in the bottom of the sixth but freshman pitcher Jaqueline Losseff (Point Pleasant, NJ) forced an infield popup to halt the Blazers threat. Losseff struck out two in the complete-game win for the Lasers.

Freshman pitcher Alyssa Skewes (Ellington, CT) allowed just three runs and struck out two in the complete-game effort and Lastowski contributed three singles for the Blazers in the loss.

Kelly finished 3 for 3 in the game, and junior second baseman Laura Gallagher (Westwood, MA) added two hits and a pair RBI in the win for the Lasers.

Elms College returns to NAC West Division action Saturday, April 21 when it hosts Becker for a doubleheader. Game one is set for 1:30 p.m.
