CHICOPEE, MA, April 7, 2007 - Elms College freshman pitcher Alyssa Skewes (Ellington, CT) hurled a pair of complete-game victories, including her first collegiate perfect game to help lead the Blazers to a sweep of Saturday's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) softball doubleheader with 11-1 and 12-0 five-inning, mercy-rule wins over Johnson State College at Dooley Field.

With the sweep, Elms College extended its winning streak to five straight as it improved to 6-6 overall, 4-0 NAC.

Johnson State, which was playing just its third game of the year due to recent snows in Vermont, fell to 0-3 overall, 0-3 NAC.

After she fired a complete-game, one-hitter in the first game, Skewes retired all 15 Johnson State batters in game two, including eight via strikeout en route to perfect game.

Skewes, who also struck out eight in game one, received plenty of help from her teammates, as the Blazers pounded out a combined 22 hits in the two games.

Junior first baseman Christina Giampetruzzi (Westfield, MA) went 5 for 6 with five RBI and four runs scored.

Giampetruzzi went a perfect 3 for 3 with four RBI and three runs scored in game one, including a two-run double to highlight the Blazers' four-run, first inning.

In game two, junior second baseman Karyn Palomba (Enfield, CT) went 2 for 4, including a two-run single to cap off the Blazers' four-run, third inning.

Sophomore pitcher Allie Cunningham (Manchester, NH) plated the Badgers' only run with a RBI double to break up Skewes' no-hit bid in the first game.

Elms College returns to non-conference play on Tuesday, April 10 at Wesleyan University. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
