SOFTBALL FALLS TO HAMLINE, 3-0

FORT MYERS, FL., March 20, 2007 - Elms College freshman pitcher Alyssa Skewes (Ellington, CT) struckout five batters, but Hamline sophomore pitcher Theresa Boleen (White Bear Lake, MN) dealt a one-hit shutout to lead the Pipers to a 3-0 victory over the Blazers in Tuesday's softball game at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers.

With the loss, Elms College falls to 0-2, while Hamline College wins its season opener to improve to 1-0.

Hamline sophomore centerfielder Jourdan Ulrich (Apple Valley, MN) and freshman shortstop Sophie Davidson (St. Paul, MN) each tallied a pair of hits for the Pipers who scored runs in the first, second and sixth innings.

Boleen struckout eight Blazers through seven strong innings, and gave up one hit in the fifth inning, to record her first win of the season.

Skewes gave up three runs on 7 hits to go along with her five strikeouts in the losing effort for the Blazers.

Elms College returns to Gene Cusic Classic action Tuesday, March 20, when they play Wisconsin-Superior. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
