Softball Wins Second Straight NAC Tournament Championship

SOFTBALL SUCCESSFULLY DEFENDS NAC TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP;
DEFEATS TOP-SEEDED LASELL, 4-2

NEWTON, MA, MAY 6, 2007 - Elms College junior pitcher Tammie Tremblay (Springfield, MA) threw a complete-game, seven-hitter and the Blazers used a three-run, sixth inning to pull away to a 4-2 win over top-seeded Lasell in Sunday's championship game of the 2007 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Softball Tournament at Taylor Field.

No. 4 Elms College (18-11) went unbeaten with four straight wins in the conference tournament, including two victories in the last three days over Lasell (27-14).

The Blazers successfully defended their NAC Tournament title and now advance to their second straight NCAA Division III Championship and third in the last five years.

Brackets for the upcoming NCAA Division III Championship are expected to be announced by Monday morning.

In Sunday's title game, Tremblay allowed just two runs and struck out four to earn NAC Tournament Most Valuable Player Honors.

The Blazers and Lasers exchanged single runs in the fifth inning before plated three more runs in the top half of the sixth, including a RBI double by sophomore center fielder Danielle LaPlante (Randolph, VT), to take a 4-1 lead.

Lasell answered with a run in the sixth to cut the deficit to 4-2, and then loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the seventh.

Tremblay, however, answered with a strikeout before inducing a game-ending, double play to punch the Blazers' ticket into their second straight NCAA Division III Championship.
