Softball Falls To Wesleyan, 11-1

SOFTBALL FALLS TO WESLEYAN, 11-1

MIDDLETOWN, CT, April 10, 2007 - Elms College freshman pitcher Alyssa Skewes (Ellington, CT) struck out four batters but Wesleyan University sophomore shortstop Molly O'Connell (Brookline, MA) went 2 for 3 with two RBI to help lift the Cardinals to an 11-1 five-inning, mercy rule victory over the Blazers in Tuesday afternoon's non-conference softball game at Middletown.

With the loss, Elms College sees its five-game winning streak snapped as they fall to 6-7 overall. Wesleyan wins its fifth in a row to improve to 12-11 overall.

Wesleyan recorded 10 hits and scored six runs in the second inning and scored five more runs in the fourth inning to seal the victory.

Wesleyan freshman pitcher Meaghan Dendy (Swansea, MA) surrendered just one run on 4 hits and struck out four in 5.0 innings of work in the win for the Cardinals.  

Elms College sophomore center fielder Danielle LaPlante (Randolph, VT) went 1 for 2 and knocked in the lone run for the Blazers in the loss.

The Blazers return to action Thursday, April 12 when they host Fitchburg State in a non-conference game. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
