Men's Volleyball Downs Wentworth, 3-0

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL DOWNS WENTWORTH, 3-0 

BOSTON, MA, March 24, 2009 - Sophomore outside hitter Alberto Bravo (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico) recorded 14 kills in 22 attempts to go along with three digs and a pair of blocks as Elms College downed Wentworth, 3-0 (30-23, 30-24, 30-19), in a North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) New England Division men's volleyball match at Tansey Gymnasium.

The Blazers won for the seventh time in eight matches to improve to 16-12 overall, 11-3 NECVA New England. Wentworth dropped its second straight to fall to 9-10 overall and 6-7 in conference play.

The host Leopards opened the first game by taking a 6-4 lead, but quickly saw the Blazers score 10 of the next 14 points to take a 14-8 lead.  Wentworth would cut the lead to three at 20-17 and 23-20, but Elms College scored seven of the final 10 points to take a 30-23 lead in the game.

The two teams traded the first five points of the second game, with Wentworth taking a 3-2 lead.  However, the Blazers ran off five straight points to take a 7-2 lead, a lead they would not relinquish. 

The Leopards cut the lead to two on two occasions, including at 9-7, but Elms College eventually would take a 20-12 lead.  Despite making one last run and pulling the game to 28-24, Elms College scored the final two points to take a 30-24 win.

Leading 11-9 in the third game, Elms College would increase its lead to as much as seven (18-11) before closing out the match with a 30-19 win.

In addition to Bravo, freshman outside hitter Sequiel Sanchez Velez (San Sebastian, Puerto Rico) had 11 kills and five digs, while junior setter Ivan Andujar (Carolina, Puerto Rico) had 27 assists.

Wentworth was led by sophomore outside hitter Javier Feliciano (San Juan, Puerto Rico), who had 18 kills, while sophomore outside hitter Lowell Jesmer (Rochester, NY) added 13 kills and five digs.
