Men's Volleyball Zaps Division II New Haven

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL ZAPS DIVISION II NEW HAVEN, 3-0

NEW HAVEN, CT, March 10, 2009 - Elms College freshman outside hitter Sequiel Sanchez Velez (San Sebastian, Puerto Rico) hammered down a match-high 12 kills and hit a sizzling .600 to help lead the Blazers to a convincing 3-0 (30-12, 30-12, 30-25) win over Division II University of New Haven in Tuesday night's non-conference men's volleyball match at Charger Gymnasium.

The Blazers (12-11) won their third straight and were victorious for the fifth time in six matches. The host Chargers fell to 4-10.

Sophomore outside hitter Alberto Bravo (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico) added 11 kills and hit .450, sophomore outside hitter Carlos DeLeon (Carolina, Puerto Rico) added 10 kills, and junior setter Ivan Andujar (Carolina, Puerto Rico) handed out a match-high 28 assists and equaled senior libero Marc Carrasco's (Tucson, AZ) team-high nine digs.

For the match, the Blazers hit .343 and registered 10.5 blocks, including three each from freshmen middle hitters Vincent Cruz (Harwinton, CT) and Harry Sebastian (San Juan, Puerto Rico).

The Blazers return to North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) New England Division play at Endicott on Thursday, March 12. Match time is 7:00 p.m.
