BROOKLINE, MA, Feb. 26, 2009 - Elms College sophomore outside hitter Alberto Bravo (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico) nailed down a team-high 25 kills and junior setter Ivan Andujar (Carolina, Puerto Rico) handed out a team-high 42 assists to help the Blazers cruise to a convincing 3-1 (30-26, 30-24, 22-30, 30-26) win over Newbury College in Thursday night's North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) New England Division men's volleyball match at Hellenic College.

The Blazers (9-10, 6-2 NECVA) won for the seventh time in 10 matches and also posted the program's first-ever win in 15 all-time meetings against the Nighthawks, dating back to 2003.

Elms College won by set scores of 30-26, 30-24, 22-30, 30-26.

Freshman outside hitter Sequiel Sanchez Velez (San Sebastian, Puerto Rico) recorded 14 kills and nine digs, freshman middle hitters Vincent Cruz (Harwinton, CT) and Harry Sebastian (San Juan, Puerto Rico) combined for 22 kills, and freshman setter Jesus Echevarria (San Juan, Puerto Rico) added 24 assists.

The Blazers were also solid defensively, as Bravo, senior libero Marc Carrasco (Tucson, AZ) and sophomore outside hitter Carlos DeLeon-Gomez (Carolina, Puerto Rico) combined for 23 digs in the victory.

Elms College returns to action in a tri-match at MIT on Saturday, February 28 to face the host Engineers and Emerson.
